In this episode, I talk with Kyle Sizemore of FamZing Studios about live streaming for weddings. From pandemics to guest that cannot travel in, Live Streaming is the perfect option!

Sheridan Butcher | Get Married Host:

Hello and welcome to Get Married! Where wedding planning is a piece of cake. I’m your host, Sheridan. As a current bide myself, I’ve been navigating my way through the wedding world, and I have so many questions. I figured what better way to find those answers and to talk to some of the best wedding professionals in the industry? With the state of the world, where it is right now, I’ve noticed that a lot of guests are unable to make it to my wedding and they might not be able to make it to yours either. So today I have the opportunity to sit down with Kyle, from FamZing to talk about live streaming your wedding. So hi, Kyle, how are you?

Kyle Sizemore | FamZing Studios:

Hi! I am doing great this morning? How are you, Sheridan?

Sheridan Butcher | Get Married Host:

I’m doing well. So we’re going to talk a little bit about live streaming.

Kyle Sizemore | FamZing Studios:

Perfect.

Sheridan Butcher | Get Married Host:

So I guess my first question is, what is involved in live streaming?

Kyle Sizemore | FamZing Studios:

Sure. Well, as you mentioned before, with the state of things, it’s really difficult to get every single guest to your wedding. And the thing is you, may have a venue who may have a, you know, a ceremony where you can have 45 people, but then your reception venue only can have 150. So that means you’ve got a hundred people or so who can’t see your actual ceremony. So what live streaming entails is being able to have the best seat in the house, where you can hear everything happening from anywhere! You could be at home, you could be in the UK, you can be at the reception area, actually watching the ceremony. So that’s really what it is, is just being able to show the entire ceremony, uh in real time.

Sheridan Butcher | Get Married Host:

Okay. Well, what about guests? I mean, how does that for the guests on the other side of the computer, you know, how does live streaming look for them?

Kyle Sizemore | FamZing Studios:

The user experience? Yeah, well, so what’s really great as I mentioned is you have the best seat in the house with live streaming, right? So that means if I’m behind this huge, you know, retired basketball player, I, you know, and I’m a short guy, I’m not going to be able to see the bride and groom or hear them nonetheless. So, uh, the other aspect there too, is the bride and groom don’t have to necessarily have all of their guests there and then have to pay for their food and things like that. So you’re able to share this with, you know, that family member who may not feel safe going out right? Or they may have been, you know contracted with COVID and they’re like, “Oh, I just want to make it to your wedding so bad”, but what’s great is they can still be there. Right? They can share in that experience for them. So, um, in regards to how our studio handles it, what we typically do is we hand a live streaming link to the bride and they are able to share it. They can put on their invitations, they can send it out via email to their guests, which is really great. And then pretty much on the day of we start, you know, start with the live stream during the ceremony and people are able to join, um, and hear it too.

Sheridan Butcher | Get Married Host:

So what’s involved in that? You know, is there, you know, do you come in with suitcases full of equipment? Or is it like, you know, somebody, you just have a professional phone live streamer? Like what, what’s the process?

Kyle Sizemore | FamZing Studios:

Yeah! So typically, you know, like a 2008 iPad? That’s what we typically use. We’ll hold it up like that. I’m totally kidding. So the goal really is to get a crisp video with really crisp audio, to where and placing it in a place where we not in obstruction or in the way of, especially other photographers or videographers who may be there. So, um, what we entail, we bring in a few high end HD cinema cameras, as well as streaming cameras, which is really nice. We actually will have an operator at the actual wedding with a laptop provided. And say, we’re in a chapel up in the mountains, right? And there’s no wifi. What’s great is, our team actually has wifi hotspots where we can stream live, you know, no matter where we are, which is really great and super important today. So, um, we typically will set up, you know, uh, adjacent from the ceremony, we will set up on stationary cameras. And not only will we be live streaming as in, hooked into the laptop playing in real time, but we actually record on our cameras as well. So that just in case there is any technical difficulties or anything like that, we still have that cut of the entire ceremony, which is beautiful. And, and our clients really love that, honestly.

Sheridan Butcher | Get Married Host:

Is that something that, you know, if grandma wants to come to the wedding, but has a doctor’s appointment, can she tune in later on and check it out?

Kyle Sizemore | FamZing Studios:

Yeah, well, so what’s really cool. So typically with the live stream, it is a live stream and you’re seeing it in real time. However, when we finish with the cut of the wedding, we send that to the bride and groom and they’re able to share that at any point. And what’s great with live streaming services today, is a live stream can be, you know, rewound, which is great, you know? So say you have it on YouTube live, you could just go back, which is awesome. So yeah, to answer your question, we definitely can.

Sheridan Butcher | Get Married Host:

I guess my big question at the end of all this, it sounds great. It sounds like a surefire way of navigating the times. How much does it cost?

Speaker 1:

Yeah. So live streaming really depends on, you know, if you want the ceremony only, we can always go through and do more, too. So in regards to live streaming packages for your wedding, you’re going to run anywhere between about $650 to about $2,000, just depending on your day. If there’s travel involved, obviously you’ve got those fees too. Um, but we really try to make it affordable, especially during this time where it’s really difficult to justify some things for a wedding, right? So, but then at the end of the day, you’re still able to have those guests there, family members who can’t make it, those who don’t feel safe, I think it’s much more worth it to be able to have them there, right? For a couple hundred dollars. Right? And they can still share in that experience, you can still get married and you know, that’s the goal.

Sheridan Butcher | Get Married Host:

Awesome. Well, Kyle, thank you so much for stopping by. I really appreciate you taking the time.
